Frog Monitoring - Kuranda

Frog Monitoring - Kuranda

We are looking for students, particularly those with a focus on Zoology/Ecology, to come get involved in a citizen science project in Kuranda with local community group Kuranda Envirocare, undertaking monthly surveys for frogs in the region, with a focus on the endemic and endangered Litoria myola, or Myola Tree Frog.

Frogs are an indicator species of water quality and a healthy environment. We go to most of the creeks within the Kuranda/Myola region, look and listen (10 minutes listening time) for whatever frogs and animal life is present. The results are recorded and sent for research at JCU. Cathy Retter, President of Envirocare, will give a short speel on the project and the importance of this frog in our area.

CVA will be offering free transport for university students for this activity Monday - Thursday this week - please confirm which night suits you best.

Monitoring starts at 7pm, so it is advised to eat dinner before you come. Please bring a headtorch if you have one, if not, please let me know and we can provide.
