Countdown to NSVW 2024: Meet Our 38 Student Advocates!
We’re just one week away from the National Student Volunteer Week (NSVW) 2024, and the excitement is building! This year, we’re proud to introduce 38 outstanding Student Advocates from across the country, ready to inspire and lead their peers in celebrating the power of volunteering.
From the sunny shores of Queensland to the bustling streets of Melbourne, these advocates embody the spirit of giving back and community involvement. They come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique experiences and perspectives. Whether it’s environmental conservation, mental health advocacy, or social justice, our Student Advocates are passionate about making a difference.
Meet a few of our advocates:
- Jasmine from Sydney: A first-year student at UNSW, pursuing a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Master of Exercise Physiology and Physiotherapy. She has a strong passion for volunteering, driven by her love for bringing happiness to people and providing support. Through her involvement with Easy Care Gardening, she helps manage the gardens of elderly individuals, ensuring they enjoy a comfortable and pleasant living environment. Additionally, she volunteers at Sydney Adventist Hospital to gain experience with typical hospital operations, further enriching her understanding of healthcare.
- Xavier from Brisbane: A School Captain at Mansfield State High School, Xavier volunteers with homeless shelters, environmental groups and various events, he also volunteers his time coaching younger debating students and other co-curricular programs. Xavier also organises fundraising events for many charities at his school. Xavier is also the Youth Member for Manfield in the Queensland Youth Parliament and advocates and volunteers in his community.
- Tazrin from Adelaide: A Master of Business Analytics student at the University of Adelaide, Tazrin actively participates in volunteering as an International Future Student Ambassador with the Children's University, community volunteering and other events held at the University of Adelaide. What motivated her to volunteer is to expand her network, connect with other students who come from different cultural backgrounds and build on her professional skills.
Throughout NSVW, these advocates will be leading activities, hosting workshops, and sharing their stories to inspire others. They’ll be the driving force behind the week’s events, encouraging students across Australia to get involved and make a positive impact.
Why is NSVW so important? It’s a time to highlight the incredible contributions of student volunteers and to remind us all that everyone can make a difference. Volunteering not only helps communities but also builds skills, creates connections, and fosters a sense of purpose.
