Conservation Volunteers Australia Wombat monitoring - University of Tasmania

CVA have partnered with the University of Tasmania (UTAS), DPIPWE and the State Government to monitor wild wombat populations for the presence of sarcoptic mange because while they know that mange is a major problem for some wombat populations, there has been little consistent monitoring for mange prevalence across the State.

Volunteers will carry out visual surveys (afternoon and night) to establish the number of wombats and presence of mange; this will be done multiple times to gather reliable data.

This project will be located on a large private, farming property in Dunalley. The site has a huge amount of wombats present with over 100 being spotted last time. The project will run over three nights, you can join any or all of the nights.

Get in fast before you miss out on this terrific opportunity to contribute towards a citizen science program that helps to better understand Tassie wombats and their future.

The wombat mange monitoring project is in partnership with the University of Tasmania and student involvement will assist us to collect valuable data used in the management of mange in wombat populations.
