Conservation Volunteers Australia - Vernal Pool Restoration

Conservation Volunteers Australia - Vernal Pool Restoration

Come and learn about a rare habitat in the heart of suburbia. Parafield Airport hosts the last known array of vernal pools within the Adelaide metro area, providing habitat for distinctive plants and animals.

They were only discovered in 2001 and prior to this had been used for farming, grazing and a golf driving range! Activities are all focused on restoring this unique site, including reintroducing local plants, weed management and seed collection.

This activity is free and is a great way to discover different areas around Adelaide and meet new people who share your love of the outdoors. To be involved you will need to wear a pair of boots (strong work or walking boots are recommended to protect your feet and ankles), long pants and long sleeved shirts. Wet weather gear is highly recommended this time of the year. Please also bring a pair of work or gardening gloves, your lunch and a water bottle.

BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL - please phone Jacki on 8212 0777 or go to the following link if you would like to get involved - http://bookings.conservationvolunteers.org/project/info/67174
