FedUni #NSVW17 Blood Drive – Ballarat students

Did you know that just one in 30, or 3 per cent, of Australians give blood each year? Despite this, one in three Australians will need blood or blood products in their lifetime.

You can do your bit to boost blood supplies with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service by participating in the FedUni National Student Volunteer Week Blood Drive being held in Ballarat.

The blood donor centre will be set up to take 20 donors throughout the day on Thursday 17 August at the Ballarat Blood Donor Centre, between 9.00am and 1.30pm on the day. Transport will be provided to Mount Helen students who register if needed.

Before giving blood, donors should:

  • Drink up – in the 24 hours before donation, especially in warm weather, and have at least three good sized glasses of water or juice in the three hours prior to donating.
  • Eat up – make sure you eat something in the three hours before donating
  • Bring ID – please bring at least one form of photo identification.

What’s in it for you?

On offer will be information about helping other local people, and about helping in conservation projects. Organisations taking part will include those that help people who are young and not so young, people with physical and learning disabilities, people who are homeless, victims of crime, or experiencing mental distress, and people in hospitals, hospices and day centres, plus many more. Maybe you have managerial, marketing or financial skills, in which case you may be interested in finding out about becoming a charity trustee, or a member of a school association. If your interest lies in counselling, supporting or advising then there will be opportunities for you to find out more about that too.
