Join Conservation Volunteers to undertake restoration activities such as weed management and the reintroduction of local plants, and learn more about this rare habitat in the heart of suburbia.
Parafield Airport hosts the last known array of vernal pools within the Adelaide metro area, with these temporary pools of water providing habitat for distinctive plants and animals. This unique site was only discovered in 2001, when it was assessed to be of high wetland value due to the significant flora and uncommon aquatic fauna that require this specific habitat. However, prior to their discovery this land had been used for farming, grazing and even a golf driving range!
